People drive across the Emirates for food more than they admit. The question is never really whether the drive is possible. It is whether the thing at the other end is different enough to justify it.
The honest answer: for a specific dish, yes. For a casual dinner, no. Here is how to tell which one you are doing.
What the drive actually is
We are in Ajman Industrial Area 2, which sits on the Sharjah side of Ajman rather than the seafront side. That matters, because it means the drive is shorter than "going to Ajman" sounds.
From Sharjah. Through Al Jurf and into the Sanaiya. From northern Sharjah this is fifteen to twenty five minutes depending on what Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road is doing. From the Sharjah border at Al Jurf it is a few minutes.
From Dubai. Emirates Road to the Ajman Industrial Area exit, then towards the Sanaiya, past the tyre shops, onto Amman Street. From most of Dubai this is somewhere between forty minutes and an hour.
When to come. Late morning, because breakfast runs until noon and the roads are clear. Or after about eight in the evening when the weekday crush has gone. Arriving between six and eight on a weekday is the one thing to avoid.
What is actually different when you get here
Three things, and they are the only honest arguments for the drive.
The karahi is cooked in the pan after you order it. Five mutton versions and four chicken ones, over a high flame, which is why a mutton karahi takes thirty minutes. The Shinwari at AED 34 a half and the Charsi at AED 32 are the two worth the trip, because both are cooked Peshawari style with almost nothing in them beyond meat, salt and fat. There is nowhere for a poor cut to hide.
The BBQ is charcoal, not gas. Seekh and boti at AED 22, malai boti at AED 25, chargha at AED 18 a half or AED 35 whole. You can smell the difference from the car park.
The prices are Sanaiya prices. A tandoori roti is AED 1. A small chicken biryani is AED 10. A full breakfast comes to about AED 13. That is the real argument: you are not paying a city centre rent through your food.
What to order if you have driven an hour
Do not arrive and order one karahi between four people. The mistake people make on a food trip is under-ordering because they are being polite.
| For | Order | AED |
|---|---|---|
| Two people | Half mutton Charsi karahi, four roti | 36 |
| Three people | Full chargha, four naan, half chicken karahi | 58 |
| Four people | Full mutton Shinwari karahi, six roti, two lassi | 80 |
| A table that wants variety | Half karahi, seekh kabab, handi, breads | ~70 |
Add matka falooda at AED 10 or kheer at AED 8 at the end. And order bread when you order the food, not after, because the thirty minutes a mutton karahi takes is the time the tandoor needs too.
Order before you set off. Send it to 050 720 8707 with a rough arrival time. The difference between eating when you walk in and waiting half an hour is one WhatsApp message sent from the car park at the other end.
Make it a trip, not a detour
If you are coming this far, the rest of Ajman is worth the hour. The emirate was named the Middle East's best emerging tourism destination for 2026, entry to every museum is free until the end of the year, and the Corniche is a four kilometre seafront about fifteen minutes from us. There is a page on this site written for visitors with what to see and how to fit eating around it.
That is the honest framing. A forty minute drive for a weeknight dinner is a lot. A forty minute drive for a Peshawari karahi, a walk along the Corniche and a free museum is a Saturday.
We are at Amman Street, Ajman Industrial Area 2, near Nesto Hypermarket, open every day from 7:30 am to midnight, with free parking directly outside.
Common questions
- How far is Ajman Industrial Area 2 from Sharjah?
- Ajman Industrial Area 2 sits right on the Sharjah side of Ajman. From Al Jurf and the Sharjah border it is a few minutes, and from most of northern Sharjah it is fifteen to twenty five minutes depending on traffic on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
- Is it worth driving from Dubai to Ajman for Pakistani food?
- For a specific dish, yes. A half mutton Shinwari karahi is AED 34 here against considerably more in most of Dubai, and the charcoal BBQ is cooked over coals rather than gas. For a casual dinner, probably not. Make it a trip rather than a detour.
- What is the best time to drive up from Dubai or Sharjah?
- Late morning for breakfast, which runs until noon, or after about eight in the evening when the Emirates Road traffic has thinned. Avoid arriving between six and eight on a weekday evening.
- Can I order ahead so it is ready when I arrive?
- Yes, and you should. Send the order to 050 720 8707 on WhatsApp with a rough arrival time. A mutton karahi takes thirty minutes and charcoal BBQ fifteen to twenty, so a message sent before you set off is the difference between eating on arrival and waiting.
