For about eight months of the year, the honest advice about eating outdoors in the UAE is: do not. Then some time in late November the air changes and the whole country moves outside.
Late November to mid March is Ajman's season, with daytime highs around the mid twenties. If you have been meaning to come, this is the window, and it has just opened.
What actually changes
The Corniche becomes a walk rather than an endurance test. Four kilometres of promenade along the Gulf, best in the hour before sunset, and genuinely pleasant for the first time since March.
Al Zorah becomes the reason to come. The mangrove lagoon with its resident flamingos, a few hundred of them, plus herons and egrets. Guided kayak tours run roughly 75 to 90 minutes on a sheltered route, and there is a boardwalk trail of about 1.5 km for anyone who would rather walk. Several sources disagree on the reserve's current opening hours, so check with the reserve or Ajman Municipality before you go.
Ajman Museum in the old fort is worth 45 to 90 minutes, and entry is free until the end of 2026.
And outdoor tables become usable. This is the part nobody puts in a travel guide and it changes the evening completely.
Why charcoal is a cold weather dish
There is a reason BBQ culture across Pakistan and north India peaks in winter rather than summer, and it is not nostalgia.
In August, standing anywhere near a lit charcoal grill is punishment. In January it is the best place in the restaurant. The smoke, the heat coming off the coals, meat arriving still spitting — all of that works in cool air and none of it works at forty degrees. The food is identical. The experience is not.
Everything on our grill goes on the coals after you order it, which is fifteen to twenty minutes, and a kabab is at its best in the ninety seconds after it leaves the skewer. In winter that ninety seconds is something to sit outside for.
| Off the coals | AED |
|---|---|
| Chicken tikka, leg or chest | 10 |
| Seekh kabab / reshmi / tandoori boti | 22 |
| Malai boti | 25 |
| Chargha, half | 18 |
| Chargha, full bird, feeds three | 35 |
Order a half chicken karahi at AED 15 alongside. Charcoal meat is dry by design and the table needs something wet next to it.
The cold morning argument
The other thing winter makes sense of is paya.
Mutton trotters simmered overnight until the collagen breaks down and the stock turns genuinely silky. It is a heavy, gelatinous, restorative dish, and on a cool morning it is one of the great breakfasts anywhere. At AED 10 with a desi paratha at AED 2 and a karak chai at AED 1, it is also AED 13.
Beef nihari at AED 10 does the same job with more spice behind it. Both run from 7:30 am, which in winter is a pleasant hour rather than a brutal one.
There is more in the guide to desi breakfast in Ajman.
Planning around the holiday
Eid Al Etihad, the UAE national day, is expected on 2 and 3 December 2026 — a two day break falling mid week. The Cabinet confirms dates and any transfer, so check the official announcement rather than planning off a blog post.
Either way, early December sits in the best weather of the year. If you are looking for somewhere to go that is half an hour away and does not require booking anything three weeks ahead, Ajman is the answer to that question.
There is a full one day itinerary here if you want the whole day planned.
Where to sit
Shop 8/1, ground floor, Amman Street, Ajman Industrial Area 2, beside Nesto Hypermarket. Indoor and outdoor seating, families welcome at every table, free street parking directly outside, step free from the pavement.
Open 7:30 am to midnight, every day. We do not deliver, which in winter is less of a loss than usual: the charcoal is the reason to come, and it does not travel.
No booking needed unless you are eight or more. Call 050 720 8707 earlier in the day if you are a group, or message the order ahead and it will be finishing as you park.
Common questions
- What is the best time of year to visit Ajman?
- Late November to mid March. Daytime highs sit around the mid twenties, which is when the Corniche, the Al Zorah mangroves and outdoor seating are all comfortable. Outside that window the outdoor parts of a day in Ajman are best done early morning or after sunset.
- Is Ajman good in December?
- December is one of the best months. The weather is at its most comfortable, the Al Zorah flamingos are easy to see, and the Eid Al Etihad national holiday falls on the second and third of December, which for many people is a two day break.
- Is there outdoor seating in Ajman restaurants?
- Yes. Zafran Kitchen on Amman Street in Ajman Industrial Area 2 has both indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor tables are genuinely usable from late November through March. Families are welcome at every table.
- What should I eat in Ajman in winter?
- Anything off the charcoal, because standing near a lit grill stops being unpleasant and starts being the point. Seekh kabab and tandoori boti are AED 22, malai boti AED 25, and a full chargha is AED 35 and feeds three. Mutton paya at AED 10 is the cold morning dish.
- When is UAE National Day 2026?
- Eid Al Etihad is expected on 2 and 3 December 2026, a two day break falling mid week. Dates and any transfer are confirmed by the UAE Cabinet, so check the official announcement before booking anything around it.
